Dental Health and Veneers

Dental veneers in Fountain Valley are thin porcelain shells which are custom-made from tooth-colored materials for covering the front surface of the teeth and improve the appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size, and length. Veneers are made from composite resin as well but the best choice of material will be suggested by your dentist.

What Types of Problems Do Porcelain Veneers Fix?

  • The teeth that are discolored either because of root canal treatment, stains, medication, or excessive exposure to fluoride.
  • Teeth that are worn down.
  • Teeth are chipped or broken.
  • Teeth that are misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped.

Diagnosis and treatment planning

The first step is all about active participation and hence you need to explain the dentist in 92708 about the results that you are trying to achieve. The dentist will examine your teeth and make sure that the dental veneers are appropriate for you and discuss what the procedure will involve along with some limitations. They may also take x-rays and make impressions of your mouth and teeth.

To prepare the tooth for veneers, the dentist will remove about ½ millimeters of enamel from the tooth surface which is of same thickness as of veneers to be added to the tooth’s surface. Before trimming the enamel, the dentist will decide if there’s a need for local anesthetic for numbing the area. He will then make an impression of the tooth which will be sent to the lab for making the veneers. It may take 2 to 4 weeks for the dentist to receive the veneers back from the laboratory.

Before veneers are permanently cemented, the dentist will place it temporarily to examine the fit and color. They will remove and trim the veneer for perfect fit. The color will be adjusted and tooth will be cleaned, polishes, and etched for bonding the veneer. Applying a special cement, the veneer will be bonded to the tooth.

The veneers treatment typically needs 3 sittings at the dentist’s office- one for a consultation and two to make and apply the veneers.
