Cosmetic dentistry

Even though at Elite Dental we try our best to restore your injured tooth back to its original condition, or as close as possible, occasionally that’s just not feasible. In cases such as root canals and cavities that require large fillings, a crown or cap may be necessary to protect the tooth and the repair adequately.

Dental Crowns in Fountain Valley have come a long way over the years, and the newest line of them do a good job of matching tooth color, shape, and contour. Elite Dental and Dr. Azi take great pride in forming your crown or cap to fit the shape of your mouth and the current tooth structure.

Here are a few reasons you may need a crown during your next repair appointment at Elite Dental.

Root Canals

Routinely one of the most cited reasons for a crown, root canals involve a repair of the pulp material inside of the tooth, behind the enamel and dentin. Since this procedure involves removing material from the natural crown to gain access to the pulp area, a crown or dental cap must be placed after the procedure to seal the tooth. The cap serves to protect the inner side of the tooth and retain the effectiveness of the root canal procedure.

Large Fillings

Occasionally, cavities become so large that the filling required to fix them leaves very little tooth material left. Since teeth do not regenerate, that material can become very weak over time, increasing the risks of chipped and broken teeth as well as the filling itself becoming ineffective. A cap in these cases holds the remaining tooth material together and strengthens the overall repair.

Cracks

Tooth fractures can act like small cracks in your windshield. What may seem like a small problem at first can rapidly grow into a painful, expensive repair. When a crack in a tooth becomes too large, the structural integrity of the tooth is compromised and can lead to even more damage. A crown on a cracked tooth serves as a brace for the tooth itself, holding it together if a crack has threatened to break it into pieces.

Although Dr. Azi prefers to try everything possible to save the original pieces of a tooth, sometimes a crown is unavoidable. If that’s the case, Elite Dental in Fountain Valley is well-prepared and equipped to handle these delicate procedures pertaining to dental crowns and dental caps in Fountain Valley and are waiting to make you smile again!
