Cosmetic dentistry

Dentists, including Elite Dental’s own Dr. Azi, have been utilizing lasers to perform a host of tasks for over two decades now. Lasers provide a safer, more efficient, minimally invasive option to reshape gums, remove material, and whiten teeth, just to name a few.

While we’re sure you’ve probably experienced one of these laser procedures, we know our Fountain Valley residents like something to work, but also like to know how it works. Here’s a breakdown.

The Tech

Inside of a module, monochromatic light particles are excited and pulsed outward in varying wavelengths (determined by the procedure). As these pulsing light beam particles interact with the tissue that they are focused on, the tissue is vaporized in precision amounts. Contrast this to the friction cutting method of yesteryear, and lasers produce a much more precise removal of tissue without the pain associated with other tools.

Different Pulses for Different Procedures

What makes lasers very unique is the ability to change settings of the laser system to affect different results. Depending on the type of tissue Elite Dental will be working on, the wavelengths of the laser are adjusted accordingly, producing the best results with
laser dentistry in Fountain Valley, CA.

Hard Tissue

For procedures involving primarily the teeth, a hard tissue wavelength is used. These wavelengths allow the laser to cut through bone and water, specifically the calcium phosphate that’s in your teeth. This allows for minute removals of tooth particles for shaping and contouring.

Soft Tissue

When working on gums, or other soft tissue areas of the mouth, soft tissue wavelengths are employed. These particles of light absorb into hemoglobin and water, removing small amounts of tissue while cauterizing the blood vessels of the affected area. The beauty of using a laser in this situation is the sharp decrease in bleeding associated with a procedure, improving healing times and lowering infection risk.

Laser Focus

Elite Dental is committed to providing our patients with the best technology and cutting-edge techniques on the market when it comes to laser dentistry in Fountain Valley, CA. With tools such as our laser dentistry equipment, we are able to continue that focus on precise, controlled, and efficient dental care.
